The
PKA welcomes new members from throughout the knifemaking
community.
ACTIVE membership
in the PKA requires the applicant meet those quality and
experiential requirements that demonstrate the highest level of
professionalism in custom knifemaking or an associated
profession.
Knifemakers: Applicant
knifemakers must derive a significant portion of their income
from the sale of custom knives (knives which the applicant
individually handcrafts by grinding or forging the blade from a
steel billet or bar stock). In addition to certifying their
knifemaking business as a for profit undertaking,
applicants must also have their knives evaluated and approved by
at least two members of the PKA who are familiar with the
applicant's knifemaking and business practices. Alternatively,
the applicant may send at least two (2) examples of their work
(which are returned ASAP) to the PKA for evaluation. All
applications must be approved by the Executive Board.
Purveyors & Suppliers:
Non-knifemakers wishing to become full voting members of the
PKA, must apply in writing to the President or Membership
Chairman, submitting three (3) copies of their catalog, a list
of three (3) PKA knifemaker references, their annual dues, and a
paid application for a table at the next PKA annual show. At the
annual business meeting, held in conjunction with that show,
members will vote to accept or reject the purveyor or supplier
applicant as an Active member. Applicant must receive at least
60% of all votes cast (If not accepted, applicant's dues will be
refunded in full). Upon acceptance, all non-knifemaker Active
members must attend and exhibit at the PKA annual knife show to
maintain their Active status.
As a condition of membership, all Active members must subscribe
to the Bylaws and Policies of the PKA and maintain current dues.
Active members are the only PKA members entitled to vote or hold
office.
ASSOCIATE members
are those equipment and supply dealers, purveyors of PKA, ABS
and GUILD member knives, photographers, handle carvers,
engravers, scrimshanders, and exhibitors of custom knives
wishing to advance the craft of custom knives by financially
supporting the PKA, but who are unable to exhibit at the annual
PKA show.
SUPPORT membership
is one of fellowship and appreciation of custom knifemaking.
Support members will receive the PKA newsletter and be admitted
to the PKA annual knife show without charge as long as their
dues are current.

individuals who uniquely deserve special recognition for their
contributions to the PKA and to professional knifemaking.
